Oak Shelves, supporting you every step of the way!

Sizes Available

As a shelf is a 3 dimensional object, it requires 3 dimensions:

Length

Thickness

Depth

A shelf's length and depth are not normally an issue, as we can locate long lengths up to 5 metres and its depth can be constructed at our workshop by effective jointing if needed.

As shelving tends to be used for internal projects, the oak has to be kiln dried and kiln dried oak is available up to a maximum of 80mm thick.

Most shelves tend to be the standard 20mm, 27mm or 30mm.

Installation

This is dependant on the wall to which you are fixing the shelf. Some options are:

Within An Alcove

This common method allows us to provide matching oak supports that are fixed around the perimeter of the alcove. The shelf can then sit on top.

A better way would be to inset the left and right supports by 20mm and create a small downstand on the front edge of the shelf. This in turn would hide the supports attached to the wall

The Floating Method

There are two methods that can be used here.

Alternatives

Window Sills

You would normally fit a window sill prior to plaster boarding into the reveal of the window.

We are able to machine the rebate lip on the rear of the sill and dimension the left and hand returns to suit.

Colour and finishing are all detailed on our oak beam page.

Both window sill pictures show an oak board at 30mm thick, fumed and oiled.

Note the small returns left and right; these are cut for you before installation.

These pictures also show the board with a natural waney edge. A bullnose or square edge can also be manufactured.

Centre Islands

On a larger scale, the same principle enables us to produce centre islands for kitchens.
